DisplayPort to DVI adapter
DisplayPort to DVI adapter allows you to seamlessly connect a computer with a DisplayPort (DP) output to an older monitor, projector, or TV that uses a DVI input.
These adapters operate directionally (only from a DP source to a DVI display) and do not transmit audio, as DVI is a video-only standard.
Passive vs. Active Adapters
Choosing the correct type depends entirely on your graphics setup:
- Passive Adapters: These are cost-effective but rely on your computer’s video card having a Dual-Mode DisplayPort (DP++). The port itself changes the signal to work with DVI. Most modern consumer PCs support DP++.
- Active Adapters: These contain an internal chip to actively convert the DP signal to DVI. You must use an active adapter if you are connecting multiple monitors (such as AMD Eyefinity setups) or if your source device lacks a DP++ logo.
